The Lost Enzyme Project was created by the families of children diagnosed with Beta-mannosidosis in the United States in collaboration with the University of California Irvine Foundation, Kimonis Laboratory, and JCR Pharmaceuticals to create a novel enzyme replacement therapy. Our project, working through the University of California Irvine Foundation, has set a goal of raising $520,925.00 by August 1, 2025, to fund the development of a new treatment with JCR Pharmaceuticals. In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the Swim Across America community so that, together, we can change that. Last year I swam 2 miles and was able to share the accomplishment with my mother present at the event! I will be swimming swimming 2 miles (3520 yards / 3219 meters) again this year to show my support, raise awareness, and fund raise for cancer research. WE NEED TO FIND A CURE!!! I am dedicating this swim to my mother, Ursula Pugh, 6 year survivor of breast cancer and a good friends and colleagues whom we lost to cancer at the beginning of 2023: Joe Ruggiero and Bill Taylor. For my friends Gigi Madrid and Mary Ann Gottachalk Overturf whom are champions and fighters battling this disease today, and to all my family and friends that I have lost over the recent years; Ned Sexton, Tony Simpson (Throat), Malcolm Murphy (Bladder), Carol Grenier (Brain), Mr. Robinson (Pancreatic), Guy Merinac (Pancreatic), Herman Fons (Stomach), and many other countless losses. Friends Forever is a non-profit organization that works with several Indian organizations to reduce hunger and malnutrition by providing free vegetarian meals for several villages in North India.

Our work combines emergency relief with development. We provide life-saving humanitarian aid such as food packs and blankets during the harsh winter. We support long-term livelihoods by helping farmers, training women entrepreneurs, creating jobs and giving cash grants. And we support families by running primary health clinics, nutrition services and education projects. We focus on supporting the most vulnerable populations such as women, girls, orphaned children, people with disabilities and older people. We work closely with other humanitarian organisations and UN agencies. In 2022 we announced a major new partnership with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) to inject cash into the economy, boost food production and support small businesses across Afghanistan. This project will enable children and youth in our community in rural Uganda to plant gardens and fruit trees. The gardens provide an opportunity for environmental education and learning about sustainable farming, while also producing nutritious foods for the needy people. Learning about sustainable farming, while also helping to raise food for poor and needy people is very empowering . This program improves child nutrition and health, increases attendance and enthusiasm for learning, and demonstrates to families how they can continue to farm and help the environment. We hope the success of the programs will inspire others in the region to implement similar projects.
